The 90 Miler Adirondack Canoe Classic is an amazing boat event (which welcomes canoes, kayaks, and guideboats) held on the historic "Highway of the Adirondacks." The three-day, 90-mile, 275-boat race concludes at the NYS Boat Launch on Lake Flower in Saranac Lake, welcoming triumphant finishers and concluding with a ceremonial dinner.

While participants have the advantage of lighter boats, pit crews, and trailering from the finish to start lines each day, they are paddling, carrying, and camping along the same chain of lakes, rivers and carries taken by early European settlers and local Adirondack guides. This is a continuous route from Old Forge, via the Moose River through the Fulton Chain Lakes, to Raquette Lake, then via the Raquette River to Forked Lake, Long Lake and finally via the Stony Creek Ponds and the Indian Carry to Upper Saranac Lake. The route then proceeds via Bartletts Carry to Middle Saranac Lake and Lower Saranac Lake, and finally, Lake Flower in Saranac Lake, the village. As extensive as this route appears, it is only the first leg of the Northern Forest Canoe Trail, which stretches all the way to Maine. There are over 500 competitors from all over the world. The 90 Miler is open to all age groups and classes, from professional to family recreational there is a group for everyone!

Don't miss the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival! This 10-day celebration starts the first weekend in February. Parades, games, exhibits, celebrations, concerts, and more, all with a focus on family fun. We start and end with incredible fireworks. The Ice Palace (made from real ice right out of Lake Flower) comes with a King, Queen, and royal court.

Since 1897, our Winter Carnival has been a grassroots, volunteer-driven event that started as a celebration to break up the spectacular, but deep, winters. The extra impetus came from the village’s transition from lively logging community to wilderness research and cure center for tuberculosis.  The patients and residents needed a boost to their morale, and so the Winter Carnival was born.

Of course, we have plenty of lively, snow-centered activities and events, like the ski and snowshoe races, Ice Palace Fun Run, a curling exhibition, and snowball toss. We keep tradition alive with the woodman’s demonstration of logging skills and add modern fun like the Ultimate Frisbee Games and Fireman’s Broomball. There’s plenty of music, almost every day, from our vast pool of local talent.

Feel free to check out saranaclakewintercarnival.com for updated information.

The Colby Classic Ice Fishing Derby is held on the first weekend of March on Lake Colby. Registration, before fishing, is between 7:00am and 4:00pm each day. The registration area is at the Lake Colby Public Beach.

Prizes are awarded for the heaviest fish in its category. There are four categories: perch, trout, salmon and northern pike. All perch, trout and salmon must be taken from Lake Colby. Fish caught in Lake Colby are brought immediately to the weigh-in area to be judged and weighed. NO FROZEN FISH ARE ACCEPTED. Fish entered in the youth class must be caught by that youth.
